My processes
Want to know more about how I would undertake your project? Read on!
Quoting
The first step of the quoting/estimating process is for you to provide me with enough information to determine your needs and how best to proceed with your project. To make a start on this, please fill in as much information as you can using my quote form.
Once I've analysed your responses and asked any further questions, I will come up with a proposal for your project. Your proposal will contain an outline of how I would expect your project to proceed. It will also include costings for my part of the work.
For larger or more complex projects I will generally provide a fixed quote for the planning/scoping phase and an estimate for the building phase of the project. Then a final quote for the building phase will be provided at the conclusion of planning, along with a detailed outline of how your project will be created.
Once the initial proposal is submitted, you can then make a decision about whether to proceed and we can talk about timing.
Planning phase
Also known as scoping, this is the phase where your project is fleshed out prior to building.
The planning phase generally begins with 'discovery', a process by which I can learn more about your needs and what you have already in place which may help with the project.
I will then work with you to:
- determine how the site will need to grow and be maintained into the future
- plan the organisation of your site and corresponding navigation
- identify required content, whether it already exists or needs to be written and who would write it
- determine the best layout for your site template/s
- finalise the visual design for your site (and branding if required)
- identify the functionality requirements
- work out the most suitable functionality solutions
- determine how the building phase will proceed
The part of the planning phase that clients tend to be most interested in is coming up with the visual design for your site. Generally I will present you with two to four mock up variations. Once you have decided which one to pursue, I can work with you to refine it.
Building phase
The building phase is when your web project is constructed, tested and sent live. A part payment and additional contract signing may be required prior to commencement of this phase.
During the building phase I will generally:
- turn the mocked up template/s for your site into handcoded HTML and CSS
- test the template/s in all supported browsers and make any corrections required
- implement modify the required functionality and test it
- set up site navigation/organisation
- move all site content into place and create cross links
- undertake final testing
- once approved, send your site live
- roll your site out to multiple search engines
During this phase you will generally be required to provide me with any content, artwork and decisions required from you for the project to proceed. It is important that you keep to any agreed deadlines for these requirements to ensure your project is completed.
